HBCU/MI
The purpose of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities/ Minority-Serving Institutions (HBCU/MI) Science Program is to 1) increase the research and educational capacity of HBCU/MIs, and 2) to foster workforce diversity and entry of underrepresented minorities into science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. This program is coordinated with the Service research offices, and partners with DoD laboratories for the Centers of Excellence. The HBCU/MI program is carried out under the authority at 10 USC § 2362. For more information about the program, please contact the program director, Ms. Evelyn Kent.
STEM
DoD provides learning opportunities from elementary school through graduate school to inspire and cultivate a diverse pool of exceptional Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) talent. DoD programs connect STEM education in the classroom to the excitement, skills, and challenges that come with safeguarding our country.

SMART
Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART)
The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program was established as a concentrated effort to enhance the Department of Defense (DoD) workforce with talented, innovative and brilliant scientists, engineers and researchers. For over a decade, SMART Scholars have been working within labs and agencies of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Additional DoD to support the warfighter and create an impact to secure our nation.
