Resilient and Open Commercial Solutions (ROCS)
By focusing on spectrum management and spectrum sharing, the Resilient and Open Commercial Solutions (ROCS) theme can leverage advances in hardware, software, and other applications for the warfighter. ROCS focuses on supporting vendor diversity through experimentation such as the 5G Challenge, and Open 6G.
The ROCS team enhances its experimentation and projects through relationship building with academia and industry alike. Projects such as Resilient and Intelligent NextG Systems (RINGS)Â allows a free flow of information from subject matter experts from various backgrounds and industries.
Revolutionizing Spectrum Management and 6G Deployment
We Aim To:
Encourage privacy enhancing technologies.
Promote training and workforce development.
Support vendor diversity through competition.
Leverage advances in hardware, software, and various applications.
Highlighted Projects:
ROCS leverages commercial standards compliant technology solutions and utilizes them for DoD specific needs. The portfolio is tackling two critical DoD challenges: efficient spectrum utilization and secure deployment of advanced wireless technologies. Two key initiatives within ROCS are poised to transform how the Department of Defense (DoD) operates:
Automated Spectrum Deconfliction: ROCS researchers have developed a groundbreaking automated spectrum utilization capability. This system dramatically reduces spectrum planning deconfliction time from hours to mere seconds, replacing the current, labor-intensive manual process. This near-real-time capability enables more dynamic, efficient spectrum management and maximizing the utility of this crucial resource.
Open Centralized Unit Distributed Unit (OCUDU): This initiative is paving the way for dual use secure and sustainable adoption of 5G and 6G technologies within the DoD. OCUDU will deliver DoD-unique 6G wireless capabilities on commercially sustainable diverse platform(s) including CPU, GPU and FPGA. This approach ensures alignment with industry advancements, providing cost savings and a crucial asymmetric advantage on the battlefield. By leveraging commercial technologies and incorporating specific DoD requirements, OCUDU offers a secure and adaptable path for future acquisitions, keeping pace with the rapid evolution of wireless communication.
